On the Astana-Temirtau highway, cameras with elements of artificial intelligence recorded several incidental collisions, Tengri Auto reports. The footage shows that the drivers did not react to the road situation and made collisions with virtually no braking. Thus, the first frames show that on August 12, the driver of a Huyndai, while changing lanes, drove into the rear of an oncoming truck. In the second video from traffic cameras, on August 30, a Chevrolet car drove off the road onto the side of the road and collided with a road structure. KazAvtoZhol noted that drivers could lose concentration due to drowsiness or distraction on a smartphone. The circumstances of the accident will be determined by police officers. The company reported that in both cases there were no fatalities. “These images show how dangerous a few seconds of inattention can be. At high speed, the car travels tens of meters during this time, and the driver has virtually no opportunity to avoid a collision,” noted KazAvtoZhol. Let us recall that last year in Kazakhstan drones were launched on the highways, which should identify tired drivers. Official Representative
Ministry of Internal Affairs Chingis Alekeshev explained the algorithm of work; drones will identify dangerous drivers, as well as those who have been on the road for more than eight hours. “The algorithm is this: if a car moves without stopping for more than eight hours, the drone signals that the vehicle has been moving for too long,” Alekeshev said during a press tour at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. After this, patrol police stop the car and check the condition of the driver. According to KazAvtoZhol, the number of accidents on national highways decreased by 5.2 percent - from 1,214 to 1,151 cases. The number of victims decreased by 8.2 percent - from 2,376 to 2,181 people. The most noticeable reduction in accident rates was recorded on the Astana-Schuchinsk and Astana-Karaganda sections. In the winter of 2025–2026, 27 accidents occurred there compared to 57 a year earlier. Also, during the reporting period, no deaths were registered on these sections of roads, while in the winter of 2024–2025, nine people became victims of accidents.
