The American corporation OpenAI announced that its internal model was able to solve one of the seven “millennium problems”. We are talking about the Navier–Stokes equation. The company claims that its AI agents completed the task in 88 hours, although scientists have been looking for a solution to the equation for more than 90 years, Tengri Life reports with reference to RBC.
The Millennium Prize Problems are seven key unsolved mathematical problems, each of which has been awarded a $1 million prize by the Clay Institute of Mathematics in Cambridge to prove or disprove each one. The list was presented on May 24, 2000 at a meeting at the Collège de France in Paris.
The system of three Navier–Stokes equations was formulated by the French physicist Henri Navier and the British mathematician George Stokes in 1822 and 1829, respectively. Since then, scientists have tried to prove or disprove that the equations of hydrodynamics in three-dimensional Euclidean space always have a single smooth solution with finite energy for any “rapidly decaying” initial conditions.
