The Kazakh team received a special award at the robotics championship in Hong Kong

The BULAN Nazarbayev University team, which represented Kazakhstan at the international robotics championship ABU Robocon 2026 in Hong Kong, won the Mabuchi Motor Award. University teams from 21 countries took part in the competition, Kazinform reports with reference to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The Mabuchi Motor Award recognizes original engineering, quality of mechanical design and effective integration of mechanical, electronic and software components. Participation in ABU Robocon 2026 marked the return of Kazakhstan to the international championship after a seven-year break. The national selection and formation of the country's team this year was organized by the USTEM Foundation. The national stage took place on July 1 as part of the Almaty Tech Cup. As a result, the winner was the BULAN team of Nazarbayev University, which received the right to represent Kazakhstan at the international finals in Hong Kong. The Kazakhstan team included 28 students from various specialties, including mechanics, electronics, programming, design and project management. This interdisciplinary approach allowed us to combine engineering and digital competencies in the development and preparation of robotic solutions.

At the international stage, Kazakhstan was represented by Meirzhan Tazdarbay, Temirlan Amangeldy, Aymedet Taufik, Farshed Ibrokhimov and Dastan Musrepov. The Mabuchi Motor Award was established by the Japanese company Mabuchi Motor, a manufacturer of small electric motors. The award is given to teams that demonstrate an original approach to design, a high level of mechanical engineering and a comprehensive application of technological solutions. The result of the Kazakh team at ABU Robocon 2026 indicates the growing potential of student engineering and robotics, as well as the competitiveness of young Kazakh developers on the international platform, the department noted. Earlier it was reported that young roboticists from Kazakhstan won 23 awards at the international championship.
