University teams from 21 countries took part in the competition. The BULAN team of Nazarbayev University, which represented Kazakhstan at the ABU Robocon 2026 international robotics championship held in Hong Kong, won the Mabuchi Motor Award. The Mabuchi Motor Award is given for the uniqueness of the engineering solutions, the quality of the mechanical design, as well as the ability to effectively combine mechanical, electronic and software components. Kazakhstan's participation in the ABU Robocon 2026 was the country's return to international competition after a seven-year hiatus. This year, the USTEM Foundation PF organized the national selection and formation of the national team. The national stage was held on July 1 as part of the Almaty Tech Cup. According to its results, the BULAN team of Nazarbayev University became the winner and got the right to represent Kazakhstan in the international finals in Hong Kong. The Kazakhstan team included 28 students studying various specialties, including mechanics, electronics, programming, design and project management. Such an interdisciplinary approach made it possible to combine engineering and digital competences during the development and production of robotic solutions.

Meirzhan Tazdarbai, Temirlan Amangeldi, Aimedet Taufik, Farshed Ibrohimov and Dastan Musrepov performed on behalf of Kazakhstan at the international stage. The Mabuchi Motor Award is a special award from the Japanese company Mabuchi Motor, which produces small electric motors. It is awarded to teams that have demonstrated a unique approach to design, a high level of mechanical engineering, and skill in the complex application of technological solutions. The result of the Kazakh team at the ABU Robocon 2026 championship shows the growing potential of students in the field of engineering and robotics, as well as the international competitiveness of young Kazakh developers.
